First Premix Residual Dicamba Herbicide Offers New Tool to Fight Resistant Weeds
Tavium Plus VaporGrip Technology is a new Syngenta herbicide developed to help growers manage tough weeds.
Among the various challenges growers face annually, herbicide resistance remains one of the most significant. Over the past several years, herbicide resistance has spread across multiple regions, becoming an increasing concern for most row crop growers.
The fact is resistant weeds are not going away, which is why it’s crucial for growers to continuously improve their weed management strategies to stay ahead of the problem.

Having a deep understanding of the weed-resistance challenges growers face, Syngenta entered the dicamba market by introducing the first dicamba premix residual herbicide, Tavium® Plus VaporGrip® Technology—a new herbicide developed to help growers manage tough and resistant weeds.
“For decades, Syngenta has been conducting research and collaborating with university experts to establish best practices in weed resistance management,” says Dane Bowers, technical product lead at Syngenta. “As a longstanding leader in weed resistance management, we felt it was our duty to offer an additional tool that would manage key driver weeds, combat herbicide resistance and enhance our robust portfolio of herbicide offerings.”
“The S-metolachlor in the premix formulation contributes three weeks of additional residual control that you won’t see from other dicamba offerings,” says Bowers. “It also delivers a broader spectrum of weed management, so you’re really getting more out of it than you would from dicamba alone.”

Take a Full-Season Approach
“It’s essential to implement a two-pass system to make sure weeds are managed for the entire season,” says Bowers. “Incorporating multiple effective SOAs into your herbicide program will help avoid exhaustion of the auxin technology and prevent weeds from developing resistance within a few years. We recommend applying Tavium following a preemergence application of Boundary® 6.5 EC, BroadAxe® XC or Prefix® herbicides in soybeans, or Caparol® 4L herbicide in cotton.”
Applicators will also have the option of tank mixing Tavium with the following Syngenta products: Caparol 4L, Dual Magnum®, Flexstar®, Fusilade® DX and Reflex® herbicides. Tavium delivers control of emerged broadleaf weeds and residual control of key broadleaf and grass weeds in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybeans and Bollgard II® XtendFlex® Cotton.
